Well look at this. Not everyone has lost faith in the Tennessee Titans. Even some of the experts who normally pick against Tennessee are favoring them to defeat the Indianapolis Colts during the Thursday Night Football matchup at LP Field.
Eight of 13 ESPN pick’em analysts favor the Colts to win on Nov. 14. Among those who’ve picked Tennessee are Ron Jaworski and Adam Schefter. Jaworski (103-44) leads that competition while Schefter (86-61) is tied for last. ESPN’s fan community sides with Indianapolis.
Our Titan Sized staff members were split in their support. Ben Greene and Nicholas Pitakos took Indianapolis. Russell Griffin and Joshua Huffman took Tennessee. Naptown’s Finest editor J.M. Nicholas wasn’t feeling confident about Indianapolis’ chances.
What makes this game interesting is that both teams are coming off major upsets. The Titans lost to the previously winless Jacksonville Jaguars while the Colts lost a home game to the St. Louis Rams, 38-8. That’s the same Rams team who, in Week 9, the Titans beat 28-21. Since Dec. 2011, the Colts have won the last three meetings against this team. That includes a 2012 season sweep that included 19-13 and 27-23 victories.
Another storyline deals with the accumulating injuries. Ryan Fitzpatrick expects to finish the season as Tennessee’s starting quarterback. The Colts haven’t played well since Greg Toler and Reggie Wayne were lost to injuries. The Titans have two All Pro-caliber cornerbacks who can contain T.Y. Hilton and any No. 2 receiver that the Colts use.
The Colts have a two-game lead in the AFC South standings. A win would all-but-clinch the division. A loss would put the Titans within a game of first place. Both teams can use their Week 10 experiences as a way to refocus for the second half or let it evolve into an uncontrollable losing streak.
