Titans vs Colts: With 9 Games Left, Who Wins the AFC South?

Week 8 offers no “real” AFC South football (nobody cares about the Jacksonville Jaguars). Sounds like the perfect day to sit back and see what each team needs to do to win the division. Let’s take a look at the remaining schedules (Week 9-17) for the Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans.

Indianapolis Colts Schedule (Week 9-17): 5-2
at Texans 2-5
vs Rams 3-4
at Titans 3-4
at Cardinals 3-4
vs Titans 3-4
at Bengals 5-2
vs Texans 2-5
at Chiefs 7-0
vs Jaguars 0-7

Tennessee Titans Schedule (Week 9-17): 3-4
at Rams 3-4
vs Jaguars 0-7
vs Colts 5-2
at Raiders 2-4
at Colts 5-2
at Broncos 6-1
vs Cardinals 3-4
at Jaguars 0-7
vs Texans 2-5

Houston Texans Schedule (Week 9-17): 2-5
vs Colts  5-2
at Cardinals 3-4
vs Raiders 2-4
vs Jaguars 0-7
vs Patriots 5-2
at Jaguars 0-7
at Colts 5-2
vs Broncos 6-1
at Titans 3-4

It doesn’t look promising for Houston. Four of their last nine games come against teams with a 5-2 or 6-1 record. Even if they win half of those, that puts them at seven total losses. A 9-7 record probably doesn’t win this division. If it does, then sweeping the Colts is a must.

Expect the Colts to receive favorable point spreads in seven of nine games. They’ll face difficult—yet winnable—road assignments when they play the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs.

For the Titans to have any chance of winning this division, they’ll almost certainly have to sweep Indianapolis. They can’t afford to drop games against inferior opponents. A loss to Jacksonville or Oakland would all-but-eliminate them from making a comeback for anything more than a wild-card berth.

What do our readers think will become of the Titans? Will they win the AFC South, clinch a wild-card berth, barely miss the playoffs like they did in 2011, or just burn out? Answer in the poll below and discuss in the comments, Twitter or Facebook.
