Tennessee Titans Release Darius Reynaud, Use Damian Williams as Returner?

Always hate seeing that. An NFL player who has more than likely seen his football dreams come to such an ugly end. Unfortunately, the Tennessee Titans had to make that decision with Darius Reynaud. On Oct. 20, Reynaud muffed a punt that resulted in a touchdown for the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers won 31-17.

All indications are that Damian Williams will take over kickoff and punt returner duties. According to ESPN, the fourth-year wide receiver has one career NFL punt return. His inexperience doesn’t exude much confidence from me, although he can’t possibly do as bad as Reynaud did—I hope.

Special teams have been nothing short of a disaster. Basically, they’re either spotting every opponent seven points or sacrificing 50-plus yards worth of field position on botched returns and/or penalties. It has gotten beyond ignorant and has cost the Titans some games. The Titans must correct these deficiencies if they want to have any chance at the AFC South or the conference’s second wild-card berth. Replacing Alan Lowry with Nate Kaczor has backfired on Mike Munchak. There’s no doubt about that.

Best of luck to Reynaud in his post NFL career…or if someone else signs him, then his NFL career.
