Another week of football pick’em means another week of at least 12 of the 13 ESPN analysts picking against the Tennessee Titans. Chris Mortensen was the only expert who was courageous enough to take the 3-3 Titans to upset the 4-2 San Francisco 49ers. On Oct. 20, the Titans will host the 49ers in a Week 7 clash.
Who knows if Mortensen truly believes his pick or if he’s trying to go against the norm. He was the only expert to have taken the Cleveland Browns to defeat the Green Bay Packers and the Jacksonville Jaguars to stun the San Diego Chargers.
This is a game where I’ve become more confident as the week as passed. While the Titans have some key players returning from injuries, the 49ers have a lot of key figures who are either playing through injuries or won’t play at all. Colin Kaepernick hasn’t been as lethal as he was during last season’s NFC playoff march. Aldon Smith is out. Patrick Willis is playing with a bad groin.
Expect a good game here. The Titans are desperate to not enter their bye week with a third consecutive loss. That would put them at 3-4. It’s as close to a midseason out-of-conference must-win game as one can get. If Ryan Fitzpatrick or Jake Locker can avoid giveaways, then the Titans could have a 2012 St. Louis Rams-esque performance where they keep it low-scoring and steal the win at the end. In 2012, the Rams were 1-0-1 against the 49ers.
What do our readers think? Are you feeling better about this matchup? Will the 49ers prove too much? Does it depend on who starts at quarterback? Give us your take in the comments, Twitter or Facebook.
