Munchak on WR Michael Preston, who was released today: “Mike has done a great job. The goal is to get him back (on the practice squad).”

Injuries forced the Tennessee Titans hand. Needing a linebacker, they parted with Michael Preston. They signed Zac Diles, who’ll provide depth behind a linebacker core that took a hit when Moise Fokou injured his knee. He won’t play against the San Francisco 49ers. Diles is a six-year veteran who played in six games with Tennessee last season.
Preston impressed many fans with his preseason performances and 6-5, 210-poundish frame. Those attributes convinced some people that he could provide valuable depth once Kenny Britt’s contract ends this season. Speaking of Britt, releasing Preston would likely indicate that the Titans have no plans to move the wide receiver.
Hopefully, Preston will decide to stay on the practice squad. If he doesn’t, it’s not like Preston would’ve contributed this season. Not unless an injury bug bit the receivers. Not impossible when one considers the injury history with Justin Hunter and Britt. Even then, Kevin Walter should return from the physically-unable-to-perform list anytime now—if the Titans want him.
