On Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns traded star running back Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2014 first-round draft pick. The Colts now have two of the top three picks from the 2012 NFL draft. This acquisition has to trouble the rest of the AFC south. Andrew Luck is 24,T.Y. Hilton is 23, and Trent Richardson is 22. That is a great core to build their franchise around.
Despite Richardson’s career yards-per-carry of 3.5, he should thrive in his role with the Colts. In Cleveland, no one was scared of their passing attack. In Indianapolis, Luck will pave the way for Richardson. No longer will he deal with a bad quarterback. Colts fans should be very excited.
Richardson’s first game will come against the San Francisco 49ers. Don’t expect too much right out of the gate as he will have to get familiar with the Colts offense. This move also opens up the Colts receiving game as well. Look for Hilton, Reggie Wayne, and Coby Fleener to all get a boost in fantasy.
I love this move for the Colts and the Browns. The Colts get their prized running back they so desperately needed. The Browns get another first-round pick for Michael Lombardi. It’s clear that Lombardi wants nothing to do with the Browns’ 2012 draft class. He wanted to move on. This sets up the Browns with two first-round picks in next year’s draft.
Can’t you see Teddy Bridgewater in a Browns uniform? I sure can.
