Here we go again.
In a preview article I wrote about two weeks ago on the Titans-Steelers game, I detailed the history of the two teams’ meetings. A main point of focus in that article was “the curse of the terrible towel” some Steelers fans say the Titans brought on themselves after stomping the yellow rags at the end of their game in 2008. Regarding the 2013 matchup, I wrote, “I would not be surprised to see the Titans win, but I just hope Tennessee does not bring another ‘curse’ upon itself in the process.”
Well, Tennessee may have done just that. In an article for Pro Football Talk, author Mike Florio quoted Jake Locker as saying, “I know of a few floating around the locker room … I didn’t personally get one home but I know that a few made the trip back. So I should try and track one down I guess.”
When Locker was interviewed live on ESPN’s NFL Live Wednesday afternoon, Trey Wingo also asked him about the towels. Locker again denied knowing much about his teammates bringing any back to Tennessee, but he did not fully deny that it happened. To make matters worse, Titans beat writer Jim Wyatt of The Tennesseean tweeted this after the game:
Now let me be clear, I’m not a very superstitious guy. I don’t believe in any “curse,” but I do think that negative actions can very easily come back around to bite you. In the case of the Titans, they have every right to be excited about a Week 1 road win, but they only beat a rebuilding, injury-ridden Steelers team by seven points, so this kind of showboating seems a little over the top.
I just hope Tennessee is spending more time preparing for Houston than it is fixating on the stolen terrible towels.
