Fernando Velasco didn’t make the Tennessee Titans’ 53-man roster coming out of training camp. He’s already one of the top starting offensive linemen on the Pittsburgh Steelers, if not the best.
The Steelers are desperate for an offensive lineman following an ACL injury to three-time Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey. His absence played a significant role in Jurrell Casey and the Titans defense accumulating five sacks. The Steelers were already at a disadvantage because they’re trying to adjust to a zone-blocking scheme.
Had it not been for the $2 million tender, Velasco would probably still remain with the Titans. The Steelers will receive an offensive lineman who has the versatility to play center or guard. At the very least, they’ll benefit from using him as a depth option.
