So who will the #Titans emergency QB be on game days? WR Damian Williams
— Jim Wyatt (@jwyattsports) September 2, 2013
When third-string quarterback Rusty Smith was cut from the Titans this past weekend, it tugged on the heart strings of many fans who watched him [on the sidelines] for three seasons. After everyone dried their tears, one question was left: Who will step in if both Jake Locker and Ryan Fitzpatrick happen to go down?
Jim Wyatt answered this for us on Twitter: Damian Williams.
No need to worry—he followed up by saying that while Smith was inactive on the roster last season, Williams had time to brush up on the playbook. Theoretically, that’s supposed to make us feel better about the situation.
One has to think that we have little to worry about in the quarterback position. There’s a good chance that if the unthinkable happens, there will be plenty of eligible quarterbacks on the waiver wire that we can pick up (maybe even Smith).
And with that, start praying to the football gods.
EDITOR NOTE: According to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, Rusty Smith has joined the practice squad. So unless Locker and Fitzpatrick both get hurt in the same game, this shouldn’t become an issue. Less than one-percent chance of that happening
