Last week (June 3-9), Titan Sized briefly evaluated each of the five wide receivers who were expected to compete for the No. 4, No. 5 and possibly No. 6 spots on the roster. We polled our readers on who they believed had the best chance of making the Tennessee Titans 2013-14 Week 1 roster. The five choices: Nate Washington, Damian Williams, Marc Mariani, Kevin Walter and Michael Preston.
Who’s joining Kenny Britt, Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright? From the looks of these polls, fans would like all of them to form an eight-man unit. Mariani received the least favorable proportion of “yes-to-no” votes (39-to-33). Coming off a severe leg injury, Mariani has never shown much as a wide receiver and Darius Reynaud already has a firm grasp on the job as return specialist.
Most surprising result from these polls? How confident fans were about Walter making the final roster. Of 115 respondents, 87 (75.65 percent) believed that Walter would make the team if the team elected to retain six receivers. 55 of those respondents (47.83 percent) felt like he would make the team regardless of whether five or six wide receivers were kept.
This doesn’t include other camp hopefuls who are trying to surprise their way on the 53-man roster (e.g. Diondre Borel). From now through August, expect a fierce competition among all of the wide receivers.
