What to Expect From the Tennessee Titans Offense in 2013

Dowell Loggains will enter his first full season as an offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans. Here are some things I expect him to focus on:

  • Run the ball. This used to be the strength of the successful teams in Titans history. With the offseason additions to the offensive line and the addition of Shonn Greene, I expect the titans to have one of the best running attacks in the NFL. Also, this is a huge part of Jake Locker’s game. Establishing a strong run threat will make everyone’s job easier, allowing Loggains to take some chances downfield.
  • Share the wealth. The Titans have given Jake Locker plenty of options. Possibly the most deep and talented receiving core in Titans history should help improve a passing offense that ranked 22nd in the NFL last year. Justin Hunter and Kenny Britt are a potential nightmare duo for defenses, and Kendall Wright will continue to be a short yard eater. Hopefully Nate Washington remains on the team. The Titans would benefit from his veteran leadership and toughness.
  • Surprise them. There are some very versatile playmakers on this offense. Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter are threats on reverses and fakes. Delanie Walker can also be lined up virtually anywhere, inside or out. He can be put into motion to keep opposing defenses guessing. Loggains needs to be creative, which is a feature the Titans offense hasn’t had in 3 years.
  • Don’t forget about CJ. Chris Johnson is still the best player on this offense. If he embraces and understands that fewer carries could result in more wins for the team, this offense could erupt. Even if his speed isn’t quite the same as he gets another year older, he remains the fastest starting running back in the NFL. Dowell Loggains has seen CJ2k and CJ1k. He’ll do his best to get CJ2k back.
