It didn’t take long for Matt Hasselbeck to find a new home. The Indianapolis Colts have snatched up the veteran QB just hours after the Tennessee Titans decided to release him from their roster. He’ll be signing his new contract Tuesday.
The Titans tried to restructure Hasselbeck’s contract in order to free up more cap space, seeings as the backup QB was scheduled to make $5.5 million in the final year of his contract. A number couldn’t be agreed upon and as a result, the Titans released Hasselbeck. We’ve yet to hear the numbers on Hasselbeck’s new contract, but in the end it doesn’t matter.
He’s a Colt.
It’s not likely Hasselbeck will see much, if any, playing time in Indianapolis. Luck did a good job of staying on his feet through his rookie year and I see no reason for that trend not to continue in 2013.
Best wishes to Hasselbeck and his endeavors in Indianapolis. He’s been a great QB for Jake Locker to learn from. He came in and did everything the Titans asked him to and now the franchise can fully turn it’s eyes to Locker to see if he can be the franchise QB they hoped they were getting when they grabbed him with the 8th pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Lock and load.
In other news, it sounds as if the Titans may be closer to landing QB Ryan Fitzpatrick than previously thought. We’ll just have to keep our ears to the ground for the time being.
