Tennessee Titans Links: The Weekend Edition

What a week!

The Tennessee Titans blistered the first couple days of free agency with some big signings to fill some obvious needs.  Hopefully this will put less pressure on the draft board, and let the Titans draft more based on talent, than need.   Some of the second tier signings haven’t been able to make their way to the Titans yet though.

Here’s your free agency links to peruse:

  • According to Paul Kuharsky, the Titans have spent $18.8M in cap space for the coming year.  That was about the number they had in free space before FA started.  Expect some more cuts and re worked deals in the next few weeks in order to free up enough for the incoming rookie class.
  • WR Brian Gibson from the Rams was scheduled to visit the Titans on Friday, but alas never made it out of Miami.  The whole WR/ Nate Washington story has thrown many of us a curve ball and are some unexpected developments.
  • DE Matt Shaughnessy was another FA the Titans had scheduled for a Friday visit.  The Cardinals seemed to have locked him up before he could get on the plane as well.
  • Sam Monson over at PFF has a good article on 5 FA signings that make no sense.  Guess who made the list?  The Titans and Shonn Greene.  The Greene signing is the most controversial by far to this point by Titans fans.  The reviews are very mixed as his ability to run the ball. I don’t think he’s here to do much more than get the tough short yards, or more importantly be the 4 minute drill back.
  • Apparently the Titans are really working on making over their linebacker depth.  After signing Moise Fokou, they are still bringing in linebackers to visit.

The Titans have done a good job so far, and at least deserve credit for coming out strong.

Has there been any more word on how Brad Jones visit went? I think that would be a really good signing.

I haven’t heard anything else about the visit. Been pretty quiet.

NFLcom is reporting the Titans brought in SS B. Pollard for a visit this weekend. I 100% endorse this move if it happens. I have been a big fan of Pollard ever since he was with the Chiefs. He is a physical player that plays with fire on every down. I think the young guys on our defense could use a guy like him. I understand it is unlikely with the addition of George Wilson before the FA, but really we still could use another safety because we lack depth at the position. I say start Griffin and Pollard, use Wilson as a rotational guy to keep the other two fresh. Even with the possibility of drafting a safety, what better way to welcome in a rookie safety than to give him these three guys to learn under? What do you guys think?

NFL,com is reporting that the Titans brought in SS Bernard Pollard for a visit this weekend. I would approve this move 100%. I think Pollard is just what this young team needs. A aggressive player that plays hard on every down, he could really generate a spark in this flat defense. I know it is unlikely we will sign him because of the addition of George Wilson before the FA, however; we could still use more depth at this position. I say start Griffin and Pollard, and use Wilson as a rotational player to keep the safeties fresh. I know there is a possibility we will draft a safety high this year but I still think this would be a good signing. What better way to welcome a young talented rookie safety than giving him this much veteran talent to learn from? What do you guys think?

it’s true, the titans could actually turn the safety position into a strength…

      • http://www.titansized.com/ Justin Stewart

Ha ha ha. Wouldn’t that be nice.

  • James Hayes

You know anything about us looking to grab Bernard the punisher Pollard?! That would be intense and change our defense identity for sure

    • http://www.titansized.com/ Justin Stewart

They had him in for a visit. I haven’t heard anything about a contract offer.

  • James Hayes

Learning the different styles of professional play from pollard Wilson and Griffy would turn our rookie DB into a straight savage

    • http://www.titansized.com/ Justin Stewart

True. We don’t have any real tough vets on defense to create that kind of atmosphere. Crazy thinking about how very few vets we do have on defense. Such a young team.

      • James Hayes

Agreed I can’t wait to see Zach Browns and K wright do their second year . Zach brown is going to be a monster for us and going to be a huge impact for years to come

          Sure hope so!
