The Tennessee Titans make another mistake just days after firing LB coach Frank Bush as they announced today that they have fired longtime special teams coach Alan Lowry, the man who made the Music City Miracle happen.
I’m flabbergasted. Absolutely shocked. Lowry has been a great creative special teams coach and this is the worst firing yet by the Titans. Why fire him? The two punt returns for touchdowns and the kick return for the touchdown weren’t good enough?
This firing is a mistake. The Titans are showing no direction now as they continue random firings of people who’ve been the biggest positives of the Titans team. Defensive coordinator Jerry Gray remains, so far, and the Titans have yet to say whether Dowell Loggains with get the nod as the Titans offensive coordinator or whether they will reach out and pursue some of the talent waiting for a job out there, such as Norv Turner, arguably the best offensive coordinator available.
The Titans seem to have turned this into a witch hunt, something that was completely unnecessary. For me personally, this is going down as a black mark on both Munchak’s and Bud Adam’s cards. Hopes of the Titans making any sensible moves for the coaching staff seem to be circling the drain.
In summary, horrible firing. The Titans have taken another step back today. We’re still waiting for some forward progress. Good luck to the rest of the coaches that positively contributed to the Titans this year, though they’ve knocked two of the three coaches I’d say had a good year out (Bruce Matthews is the last). The painful saga of the Tennessee Titans continues….
