The Tennessee Titans have fired linebackers coach Frank Bush in a move today that has me scratching my head. The Titans have a promising young group of LB’s who showed how talented this group will be in the future during the 2012 season. They were minus MLB Colin McCarthy, a key part of the group, which ended up costing them a lot of yards over the middle this season.
And that may be the reason he lost his job. Ayers was a little hit or miss in coverage and when the Titans also lost backup MLB Zac Diles, things really took a dive.
It’s the Titans first release from the defensive side of the ball, having released RB’s coach Jim Skipper and TE’s coach John Zernhelt. No one is yet sure whether defensive coordinator Jerry Gray will get the axe or not, yet.
Gray’s defensive scheme matured over the season, but questions still surround it, especially after the 55-7 beating the Titans were treated to in Green Bay.
With the recent firing of Cowboy’s defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, fans are paying close attention to see if the Titans at least bring him in for an interview.
Fans are doing the same thing with the offensive coordinator position, as the Titans have yet to announce whether the will give quarterback coach Dowell Loggains the job or look to bring in someone from the outside, such as the ever so promising Norv Turner.
As always, things are being kept quiet and we’re all left waiting, pondering the possibilities. The only thing we do know is that change is coming, and it should be. 2012 was a disappointing season on many levels and it shouldn’t have been.
Hopefully they make the right moves this offseason.
