Tennessee Titans' DC Jerry Gray Leaving at Seasons End?

Tennessee Titans reporter Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean has said that KAMC in Lubbock, Texas reported on DC Jerry Gray having interviewed for the head coach vacancy at Texas Tech. Wyatt later updated the article:

UPDATE: Texas Tech hired Kinsbury as the school’s new head coach on Wednesday.

Gray’s line as Titans DC is definitely in question with the Titans ranking 27th in the NFL in defense, but the general consensus seems to be in favor of him keeping his job in Tennessee.

The fact that Gray has interviewed outside of the organization may make the Titans think twice about keeping Gray around. It at least makes you curious. A guy who’s looking at jobs outside of the organization doesn’t give the appearance of someone who’s dedicated to it. Looking at it from the other side though, with your head possibly being on a chopping block, who wouldn’t be interested in another job?

It’ll no doubt be an interesting off-season for the Titans, who’ve already fired OC Chris Palmer and are testing out QB’s coach Dowell Loggains for the job. I’d like to blame Jim Schwartz for this. Ever since he left, the Titans have been on a downhill slope, forever looking forward to next year.

But, there’s always next year, right? (Cue laughter)

either munchak has one more year to prove he’s the guy (regardless of contract length) and gray stays. or bud gives him an extension and we get a bad a** new d coordinator.

So do you have somebody in mind? I don’t know of any D-coordinators candidates, but I’d love to hear some.

I just know it’d be amazing if we could get Norv Turner here to run this offense.

      • Modesto Koczwara

What would be more surprising is if Bud Adams pay the price for Norv Turner!

Yeah. We’ll see. I think he’s starting to hear death’s foot steps.

  • Shawn Eagle

I think that Gray had his challenges earlier but I’ve seen progress from the defense throughout the year.

One thing that needs to be realized also is that either some of the talent we have is too young and green or at other positions, are talent is inferior. He simply didn’t inherit a top 10 defense.

Agreed. I’m very curious to see what happens with the safety positions. They obviously need to be addressed. They seem to be the biggest weakness of this defense.

      • Shawn Eagle

We could through the draft and free agency turn the safety position from the biggest weakness to a strength on our team. It would be great to see that happen.

        • http://www.titansized.com/ Justin Stewart

That’s what I’m hoping for. Can’t go through another season of poor play at that position. Just need it to be solid. Not amazing. Just solid.

  • Modesto Koczwara

I agree with you Shawn Eagle, but when you have the likes of Micheal Griffin jumping on Play action whom is not a rookie then you know the problem is most likely with the DC.
