It’s been an awful morning for the NFL. A young, 25 year old member of the Kansas City Chiefs committed a murder/suicide this morning. It’s been confirmed that it was Jovan Belcher, the MLB for the Chiefs
Jason La Canfora is reporting that the player involved in the shooting was MLB Javon Belcher.

Belcher originally entered the NFL as an UDFA in 2009, but worked to become a starting LB for the Chiefs who started nearly every game since entering the NFL.
It’s a horrible thing that has occurred. The details are still unclear. Some information that is confirmed is that Belcher killed his girlfriend at home and then drove to Arrowhead Stadium where he committed suicide. It is said that he committed suicide in front of teammates/coaches, but I have not seen that confirmed.
Motive could be guessed at, having to deal with the Chiefs struggling so mightily and all the pressure of the fans being upset. It’s a lot of pressure on a player. Sometimes they get too caught up in things like this to realize that it’s just football, and if things are that bad, quitting is an option. It’s a shame.
My heart goes out to the Chiefs and their fans. Things like this are always shocking and hard to deal with, especially one as confusing as this.
UPDATE 10:17am:
The player apparently was confronted with #Chiefs coaches in the parking lot before he put the gun to his head and committed suicide.
