The Jacksonville Jaguars have decided to start QB Chad Henne against the visiting Tennessee Titans this Sunday in a move that shouldn’t surprise too many people. Gabbert has been more or less banged up for a good portion of this season and giving him a little extra time to heal up should do him good. Having said that, the Jaguars could also be using that excuse to see if Henne’s game was just a fluke or if he should be their long term solution.
Either way, as Titans fans, we should be disappointed it’s not Gabbert that we’re facing. His discomfort in the pocket and poor decision making make him a much kinder prospect to face.
Though Henne flunked out in Miami, he showed why he was a starter there for a while with his 354 yards and 4 touchdown performance against the Houston Texans this last Sunday, one of the toughest defenses in the league. Whether or not we can expect to see that happen again against the Titans is the real question.
Henne utilized rookie WR Justin Blackmon better than Gabbert has all season. That’s one of the biggest worries headed into Sunday. Before Henne was thrown into the Texans game, Blackmon hadn’t had a game with more than 67 yards. Against the Texans he recorded his 2nd touchdown of the season and shredded them for 236 yards.
Considering the fact that the Texans have the likes of CB Johnathan Joseph in the backfield, it’s a little worrisome.
I hold on to the hope that their game against the Texans was a fluke. That, and that the Titans show up for another big game.
