The Tennessee Titans finally looked like the team I said they’d be all preseason. The defense created turnovers galore, specifically the young linebacker corps, which saw a pick each.
It was a whole new Titans team out there. They had confidence. They meant business. They were aggressive. It was the best defensive performance by the Titans all season, allowing only 3 points to the Dolphins. To be fair, the Dolphins don’t own the most menacing offense, but the Titans also held RB’s Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas to a combined 42 yards.
The Titans still have a long push towards the playoffs and plenty of room for improvement, but this was a start.
Locker showed once again why the Titans have him in there over Hasselbeck. An offense that had stumble the pass couple of weeks exploded to the toll of 37 points against the Dolphins. Locker was key to that. He struggled with accuracy but was able to convert a lot of 3rd downs, especially with his feet. He even had one play where he slipped on his drop back and fell to the ground. He immediately got up and ran for a first down.
That’s just something Hasselbeck can’t do.
Chris Johnson was also the first back in the Dolphins past 22 games to gain 100 yards against them. His resurgence with an offensive line that has actually figured out how to block has been huge for the Titans and should continue to help them and young QB Jake Locker.
This all comes just in time for the Titans bye week. Hopefully they get healthier over the bye week and come back even stronger when they come back to face rival AFC South team Jacksonville Jaguars.
That should be a nice game coming off the bye. There’s your reason to be excited for Titans football.
