Apparently when the Tennessee Titans have problems with a coordinator, the solution is to throw them up in the press box. Apparently, it works.
Last week the Titans threw DC Jerry Gray up into the press box with OC Chris Palmer. The Titans defense played at a pretty high level most of the game, though they did break once the 4th quarter hit.
The Titans saw similar success when they moved Chris Palmer up to the box, though the past few weeks have obviously been disappointing. With Locker returning to the lineup, it’ll be interesting to see how the offense does. Especially with them facing the 3rd best run stopping team in the NFL. Chris Johnson had been really good against impressive run defenses thus far, including the Texans, the Steelers, and the Bears.
Some of the best defensive coordinators in the league coach from the box (Don Capers comes to mind). It gives coaches a better view of what is going on and I’m surprised the Titans didn’t move Gray up there at the same time they put Palmer up there. Now it seems like a too little, too late move.
If the Titans want to make the post-season, the defense has to play their minds out and the offense has to be able to score points. We’ll see if they have what it takes to pull out a miracle.
