The Tennessee Titans have signed S Tracy Wilson from their practice squad. The move comes after the Titans placed RB Javon Ringer on IR. Ringer suffered a tough knee injury against the Minnesota Vikings a few weeks ago and was still several weeks away from being able to practice, thus the Titans moving him to the IR.
Wilson was a member of the New York Jets‘ practice squad last year. He was activated for the last five games. I’m a little puzzled as to why the Titans signed him instead of a LB, seems as they have plenty of safeties but a shortage of LB’s.
With injuries to Tim Shaw and Zac Diles also being put on IR, this move just doesn’t make much sense. They did sign LB Xavier Adibi to the 53-man roster a couple of days ago, but I still don’t see the need for adding the safety, unless they plan on doing something with one of the safeties already on the roster.
They also have rookie FS Markelle Martin who could be seeing the field sometime soon, as he was just able to start practicing again the other week after coming back from his offseason knee surgery. Maybe this addition means that the rookie safety won’t be brought off IR.
Hard to understand much about this defense that is struggling under the guidance of DC Jerry Gray.
