Tennessee Titans Vs Arizona Cardinals Recap

The Tennessee Titans 3rd preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals was their best yet, though it’s hard for anyone to brag about beating a team that is in such disarray.

The Titans offense showed some sparkle, though the offensive line came back down to earth as CJ once again struggled to find any room to run, recording only 27 yards on 13 carries. Locker moved the offense much better in his second start, throwing 2 touchdowns while completing 11 of 20 passes. He did put a little too much on some of his passes, making receivers really stretch to get the ball or just overthrowing them all together.

Jared Cook shined on one of those passes, laying out to reel in a overthrown pass.

Wright looked great and picked up a nice touchdown on a a short pass from Jake Locker.

Marc Mariani suffered a season ending injury when he broke his left leg on a punt return, immediately being carted off the field and heading out for surgery.

The defense was impressive once again, as the defensive line kept all of the Cardinals’ QB’s uneasy. DE’s Wimbley and Morgan were both terrors on the outside, Wimbley sacking both Kolb and Skelton. The d-line appears to have completely turned around; hopefully that carries onto the regular season.

Colin McCarthy kept doing his thing, terrorizing Kolb as he picked him off twice, returning one for a 31-yard touchdown. The Titans seem to have finally found their replacement at middle linebacker, a spot that has been rather vacant since Keith Bulluck left.

Robert Johnson still hasn’t shown much. What stuck out from him was a play where Larry Fitzgerald found his way behind Johnson and just posted up as Kolb underthrew the ball and he was forced to wait on it. Johnson was out of place and was fortunate to not surrender a touchdown. It will be interesting to see who wins out between him and Babineaux.

Safety Michael Griffin also came out of the game with a pick, though at one point during his return he ran into a teammate and fumbled the ball. He quickly picked it up and brought the ball another 20 to 30 yards further.

It was a good performance overall for the Titans, though it was against a lesser team. Hopefully we can see the same type of a performance against the New England Patriots in the first game of the season.
