Tennessee Titans' Mariani Out for Season

Tennessee Titans’ Marc Mariani will not be returning any great kicks for TD’s and can be added to the IR list after suffering a fractured left tibia while returning a kick in the second quarter of last night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

It’s a heartbreaker for a guy who worked so hard this offseason to improve as a WR and had shown it in camp.

Mariani immediately underwent surgery for the fracture. That’s just how severe it was. There is a GIF floating around of the injury, but I refused to post it, just because I don’t feel that’s the right thing to do. It doesn’t feel respectful.

I hope that Mariani can come back from this injury, but it’s going to be one heck of an uphill battle. At least he has youth on his side. It’s still hard. Mariani has been built around his speed. He’ll have to rebuild that, as well as the bone in his leg.

You can send well wishes to Mariani on Twitter @MarcMariani83. I did.

Get well soon Marc. I hope your leg heals up quickly and well.

I feel so bad for the guy. I really hoped he would get a chance to do some things on offense this year, especially early on when Britt would be out of the lineup.

    • Justin Stewart

Me too. He’s a great guy and I hope he can come back from the injury.

I expect Darius Reynaud to take on either kickoff return or punt return duties. Even if Mariani was not out for the season, I would bet Reynaud would have took at least one.

    • Justin Stewart

Yeah. It’ll be interesting to see who takes the majority of returns. Between Wright, Williams, and Reynaud.

      • Modesto Koczwara

I think Hawkins will back up Reynaud as kickoff/punt returner because Hawkins was originally for special teams. (Thanks last night for reminding me that!) We have wonderful depth in all the important positions!

Williams was also originally drafted to be our return man, but Mariani out shined him. Same draft class.
