According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, sources familiar with the Tennessee Titans situation have said Jake Locker has been given the reins.
That’s right. It’s Locker time.
A official announcement is expected later today. The Titans were expected to name the starter for their next game today, not the season. But, who’s complaining?
Locker had a good first preseason game followed by a more forgettable one last week. Some were quick to say that Locker wasn’t ready after that second showing, but apparently the coaches believe otherwise.
In limited playing time last season, Locker shined. He came in late in games against tough teams such as the New Orleans Saints and led impressive comebacks. The Titans nearly won those games thanks to Jake Locker’s effort.
This is the moment Titans fans have been waiting for since they took him with the 8th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Hasselbeck did his job well and has been a great mentor for Locker and will continue to do so.
Locker will be tested early on as the Titans first four games in order are as follows: Patriots, Chargers, Lions, and Texans.
Hopefully he’s the QB we all think he is. He has a lot of the same traits that Titans’ McNair had during his time here. We all remember the Super Bowl he took the Titans to. It’ll be exciting to watch Locker play with the same style, integrity, honesty, and grit that McNair did.
Here’s to a new era of Titans football.
Good luck, Jake Locker. We’re excited to see what you’ve got.
