Tennessee Titans’ rookie DT Mike Martin has been lighting up the second and third team offenses. He also put up a nice performance in Georgia when the Titans scrimmaged the Atlanta Falcons.
Martin was my favorite player of the Titans’ draft class this year. He’s a thick, run-stopping player who is going to be a valuable part of the Titans defensive line this year.
The question is, how soon we’ll we see him out there?
He’s going to start getting reps with the first team, at least that’s what it sounds like. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him starting next to Jurrell Casey on Saturday when the Titans have their first preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks.
That doesn’t mean he’ll be starting at the beginning of the season.
The Titans are seeing good things out of him but they’ll need to see much more before they just hand over a starting spot to him. Throwing him in the starting lineup Saturday would be a sign that the Titans like what they see and want to see how he matches up against another team’s first team.
While I can’t say Mike Martin will be a day one starter for the Titans, I expect to see the Titans to use him early and often. It won’t be too many games into the season before you see him and Casey holding down the line together as starters.
