In training camp yesterday, the Tennessee Titans had a couple of injuries. Last years starting center Eugene Amano suffered a hit to his arm that had him shaken up and taken off the field. He’ll likely be getting an MRI on it.
Kevin Matthews was also taken out of practice after suffering from concussion symptoms. There wasn’t any one major hit but coach Munchak said it could be a result of multiple minor hits.
That all left Fernando Velasco as the lone center. If necessary, Leroy Harris has also spent time at center, though I don’t think it’ll come to that.
Velasco was already in the running for the starting center position so extra reps with the first team just gives him that much more opportunity to prove himself. After Amano’s performance last year, I’m rooting for Velasco. He’s done well in his limited action and Amano just doesn’t seem to be cutting it at the center position. Move that guy back to guard.
Wright had his first practice but was limited due to the new CBA. He isn’t allowed to put on pads for another couple of days. The Titans had him running routes and wearing a red jersey. Everyone is anxious to see him out there and get him more involved with the offense.
I know I for one am very interested to see how he comes along in this offense. Yesterday Paul Kuharsky mentioned on his AFC South blog that expectations are too high for both Wright and Blackmon.
He’s an agile, burner receiver who as of now, has all the potential in the world and he’s a guy I like. While I don’t think he’ll crack 1,000 yards as a rookie, I don’t think 700 yards is too large of an estimate for him. Especially with Britt’s fragile state and trouble.
The Titans’ practice is from 3-5 tonight.
