According to Press-Tellegram, Tennessee Titans cornerback Alterraun Verner will be holding a free football camp tomorrow at his old high school Mayfair High tomorrow from 9AM – 6PM.
This is just another example of how great a guy Alterraun Verner is. While a lot of football players host football camps, most of them generally have a fee. Verner’s is free to kids from six years old to those entering their senior year of high school.
Verner’s camp will focus on the fundamentals of football but it will also be stressing the importance of school, hard work, and good grades. Any of the participants bringing in proof of a 3.0 GPA or better will receive a small award.
“We wanted to make it accessible for everyone,” said Verner, who added he’ll be at the camp all day and will interact with the campers as they work on drills.
Verner said former UCLA players Austin, Chris Horton and Derrick Coleman will also be there to work individually with the kids as well as former USC running back Chauncey Washington and Tennessee safety Robert Johnson. Fitch and his coaching staff will break the campers into groups by age and position, then pass along the knowledge they’ve picked up in more than 20 years of high school coaching.
A free lunch will also be provided for all the attendees.
I’m just proud to see a Tennessee Titan making such a great contribution to kids. Parents can’t always afford to give their kids the luxury of attending fun camps like this and Verner has made this available to everyone by making it free.
He’s a great guy and I’m proud to see him in Titans blue.
Titans’ safety Robert Johnson will also be at the camp, as well as a few other players from around the NFL.
