Tennessee Titans DT’s Looking Solid

I’ve been high on the Tennessee Titans’ pick of DT Mike Martin in the 3rd round of the 2012 NFL Draft ever since it was made. ESPN is on the same page as myself. Now I don’t have the budget to be privy to ESPN In$ider articles but the lovely people of MusicCityMiracles.com do and that’s how I heard this news.

In the In$ider article they mention how hard it will be for coaches to keep Martin off the field and, as rare as it might be, both Mel Kiper and Todd McShay have that feeling about Martin.

Their reasoning?

Martin often demands double teams and thrives against single coverage. It’s hard to imagine the Titans not having Casey, Klug, and Martin in rotation and terrorizing other teams offensive lines. Martin has a great frame that almost purely consists of muscle. I’ve got big hopes for that kid.

It’s going to be a great year watching the Titans defensive line pull a 360 from where they were last year. Wimbley is a solid addition to the DE position and with a healthy Derrick Morgan and the young DT’s tearing it up in the middle, the Titans could have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL.

Wouldn’t that be great?

I think one of the best defensive lines is a stretch, but a solid one is a strong possibility….now if only we could say the same about the O-line…

@dragak1981 I don’t think it’s that far, especially if we get some good production from the DE’s.

Couldn’t agree with you more on the O-line…

@jstitansized I expect the DTs to get a good push up the middle…Martin is a beast and should demand double teams…he and Klug should be able to get it done on passing down and maybe even Casey…you are right…it will come down to DE play…I expect Wimbley to do well but I have little faith in Morgan….Ball is Ball, just an average to subpar pass rusher…Hopefully Solomon can turn into something serviceable…It will be good to see if they can bring Ayers in to rush more or maybe on blitzes more often and leave Brown on the field in coverage….Even Brown on blitzes with his speed….it will be interesting to see what Jerry Gray can dial up

Yeah I’m dying to see Gray’s defensive scheme more in depth this year. He did a pretty good job this last year and I’m excited to see what more we’ll be doing this year.
