Early Saturday morning, Nebraska CB Alfonzo Dennard, according to the Omaha World Herald:
was fighting with another man outside a bar near 14th and O Streets about 2:15 a.m.When officers attempted to intervene, police said, Dennard allegedly pushed and then punched one officer in the face.
It took four police offices to take Dennard into custody, according to police.
That’s some terrible news for a CB that was looking at being a second round pick in the upcoming NFL draft. Dennard doesn’t have a history of being in trouble but was ejected from the 2012 Capital One Bowl when he took a couple of swings at South Carolina WR Alshon Jeffery.
Anger issues and starting bar fights aren’t exactly the most alluring things to NFL teams, especially when they’re coming from an athlete who is on the shorter side of CB’s, being only 5-10, and having only run a 4.55 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. Dennard could see himself falling to the 4th round or later.
The Titans could be looking to take a CB in this draft and if Dennard was ever on their board, he has either taken a large drop or fallen right off of it.
It has been quite the off-season for draft prospects getting into trouble. Hopefully we won’t have to see any more promising young athletes wasting their talents by making dumb choices, such as this one. Many teams are moving towards a no nonsense sort of roster and the days of troublesome players being forgiven their trespasses are fading just as fast as the New York Jets hopes of a championship.
