Like it or not, the Titans need to land Manning now.

Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE

No one has been a more vocal advocate of letting Manning explore his options elsewhere. I’m quite happy with Hasselbeck and Locker, and whatever money he commands could surely be put to better use on the defensive line. However, the reality of the situation is that Mario Williams is now out of the picture. He just signed a 6-year, $100 million dollar contract with $50 mil guaranteed. Additionally, we have been all-system-go on Manning and spent a total of 8 hours interviewing with him yesterday. With no more premier free agents left, for us to not come away with Manning would have to be labeled a disappointment. Regardless of whether or not you agree with the decision, the fact is we went all in with Manning. If we can’t land him at this point, not only does it make us look bullish, but incompetent as well. At least if we are able to land Manning, Hutchinson, and Wells, or even Myers, we would all have to acknowledge that as a pretty successful off-season from a business standpoint. Just don’t expect me to cozy up to the idea very easily.
