Tennessee Titans Wooing G Hutchinson

The Tennessee Titans are pulling out all the stops to make the team more appealing to the most sought after player on the free agent market, QB Peyton Manning.

According to ESPN, the Titans plan to have a visit with former pro bowl Minnesota Vikings OG Steve Hutchinson in an attempt to help lure Peyton Manning to Tennessee. Hutchinson seemed to be a target of the Titans before the pursuit of Manning became known. With the Titans not wanting to re-sign OG Jake Scott it makes sense that they would attempt to lure Hutchinson who was once considered the best guard in football.

Once the Titans chose to pursue Peyton Manning in free agency, it came out that the team was planning to make a pretty big push for Houston Texans DE Mario Williams. It seems those plans have now been put on the back burner. It will be interesting to see if those plans are brought back to the forefront if the Titans miss out on Manning.

One thing is for sure, it doesn’t seem like the Titans have plans to sit back in free agency this year.

    He’s heading to nashville!

Is anyone else worried that Mr. Adams is dumping a whole lot of resources and effort into this wild Manning chase? I’m worried that he is going to over extend himself trying to get Manning to Nashvillie and it is going to make us miss out on some other big name free agents that we actually need. Maybe a certain Williams I keep hearing about.

I think there are more than a few people worried about spending too much on Manning and also worried about his health. Hasselbeck played well last year and its not hard to see that a few of the Titans problems would be solved if they tried to sign Mr. Mario. At the end of the day though, Adams owns the team and can try and sign whoever he sees fit.

@Verner20 Thats exactly what I’m worried about. I feel like Manning may not even be one hundred percent, and its not the going after him that upsets me in and of itself, but rather going after him at the expense of Williams. Plus, I’m hearing Jaguars are very interested and pursuing hard, so if he ends up still being in the division, but not on our squad, that would make me quite unhappy.

I’m really thinking he’s going to make his decision by tonight or tomorrow. Word is the Titans are meeting with him today. That’s all the meetings he has planned so far.

@seagle1 Hutch would be a great addition. An eternal Pro Bowler.

Yes indeed…the only thing you don’t get there is 4-5 years, you figure he’ll only have another 2-3 years in him. That’s fine, you just have to draft and have depth behind him.
