Cortland Finnegan is as good as gone, which means the Tennessee Titans will at least be looking for depth, if not a sure-fire starter. Marcus Trufant was released from the Seattle Seahawks just a few days ago and could certainly be an interesting option for the Titans.
Salary was also a factor. Trufant was scheduled to make $7.2 million according to the NFL Players Association.
When compared to what Finnegan was looking for, it looks like Trufant could be brought in for a much more reasonable price. He is a little aged for the position and does have some recent injury history with his back, but I feel like it’d be a smart move for the Titans to make. In his nine years in the league he has recorded 21 interceptions and 612 tackles.
We’ve got a bunch of young guys back there who certainly would like a shot at taking Finnegan’s spot and I’m sure they’ll get the chance, but Trufant seems like an easy fix for a simple lack of depth.
Trufant would be a great replacement for the price and we all know the connections the Titans front office has with Seattle. It just makes sense. Bring in Trufant and let him battle it out with the other young guys in training camp and let whomever comes out on top have earned the spot.
We’ll find out soon enough. Free agency starts at 4pm ET today. Be sure to tune into Titan Sized Radio tonight as Jason Peters and I discuss free agency and Peyton Manning.
