Tennessee Titans: Who Actually Wants Peyton Manning?

Now before the crazies come and try to lynch me, hear me out. I know the thought of Peyton Manning on the Tennessee Titans is enough to make fans drool. I’m not arguing that Manning isn’t a Hall of Fame QB, because obviously that would be stupid. I’m just saying he shouldn’t be a Titan. Here’s why…

We don’t need another QB.

Hasselbeck and Locker are more than competent and adding another at such a heavy price, is beyond recompense. Yes Locker still has a lot to learn and yes Hasselbeck is aging, but to put more burden on the cap at an already solidified position while other positions are in dire need isn’t a move the Titans should be making. You know who is worth spending a fortune on and would address a position in dire need? Mario Williams. He’s also not a  soon-to-be 36 year old QB who has had multiple surgeries to repair an injured neck.

Will Manning still be Manning?

The field general we’ve seen run the Colts for the past decade may not be the same player today. Four neck surgeries and a weaker throwing arm certainly are cause for concern. He certainly doesn’t have the bonus of youth being on his side. Investing the type of money it’ll take to get Manning when he’s an aging liability that may or may not be able to play at the level he has been known for is just not something the Titans should do. Wanna  make a big bang in free agency? Spend your money on someone you know is going to produce and fills a need. Sign Mario Williams

See a theme here? Don’t sign Peyton Manning. Save your money and spend it on Mario Williams. We need a DE, not a QB.

    GO GET MARIO!!!
It’s a huge opportunity, how often do you see yourself in the offseason with lots of cap room and one of the best players at the position as a free agnt?

@albertogonzalez Yup. Why waste huge money on a position that doesn’t need it? Spend big on MARIO! AHHHHHH! Ha ha ha.

    Word to your mom.

  • TitanBlueGoVols

What? You really think we are keeping 3 qbs if we were to get Manning.Williams Im sorry but i would rather take Manning.Hasselback played well but come on Manning is way better than Hasselback. not to mention. I think Jake Locker might even look better than Hasselback at times.I would rater draft a DE then sink that much money on one.Mock drafts have us taking one anyways. We could trade Hasselback to the Cards for their 3rd rounder seeing they dont have a 2nd rndr. They guy the mocks have us taking Marcelius Whitney led the nation in sacks.

@TitanBlueGoVols A. Cardinals will not invest in another QB unless he’s a superstar like Manning. They already blew enough on Kevin Kolb.

    B. I agree. Jake Locker did often look better than Hasselbeck.

    C. You’d rather sink our money into a QB, which we don’t need, than a DE, which we do need? I don’t know if you caught our radio show the other night (there are links around the site) but none of us are high on the top-tier DE’s in this draft. None of them should be expected to blow up immediately and contribute like Williams can.

  • TitanBlueGoVols

You guys act Mario Williams is coming off a n injury of his own. he missed 11 games last year. he hasnt posted over10 sacks since 08. you guys must not be from tennessee.Peyton manning would be instant revenue.

  • albertogonzalez

@TitanBlueGoVols we should ask Manning about injuries, he knows better than Mario

  • TitanBlueGoVols

Hey its not my fault the Titans didn’t take Jason Pierre Paul over Morgan. Morgan looked great before he got hurt the first time. So we were thrilled when we took a Big money free agent in Kevin Carter. They guy that had to come out the last play of the Super Bowl. Yeah we really hit out of the park with our free agent selections. Moss ring a bell? You act like hasselback is a scrub or something. The Cards had John Skelton starting. So right your telling me you taking over Matt Hasselback as your QB. Come on.

  • http://www.justinlstewart.com/ jstitansized

Yeah. Hasselbeck, Babineaux, Witherspoon, and Nate Washington were all bad signings too.

As for Williams, he’s played in a 3-4 system. Put him as a pure 4-3 defensive end and there’s a lot of hope for increase in those numbers.

I act like Hasselbeck is a scrub? Give me a quote of myself where I beat down on him. He’s been a solid contributor for the Titans. That being said, he’s not superstar. Period.

Mannings wife is from Memphis. They both went to TN they have twins. We are a perfect scenario. He stays in the division. He knows this team MUnchak is a former player. Chris Palmer worked with Eli with the Giants in 07′ I’m mean the timing kinda sucks. Yeah I see that but who cares. I wanted jake to be starting over Hasselback this season anyways. The titans should just save their money and resign jason jones anyways and move him to DE. Jureel Casey played great and I love shaun smith.so there that’s your DE solved at least going into the draft.don’t worry DE isn’t our biggest concern wait to you see how well the DBs play without Finnegan. We are gonna need a qb that can thorw 250 plus each game to keep us in games from our DBs getting abused.

     @TitanBlueGoVols
I understand the Manning ties to TN.

Jason Jones played DE all year and record 3 sacks. 3 sacks.

Jurrell is great and I expect more for Smith this year but we have a HUGE hole at DE. Our top sacker this last year was Klug with 7. We need our DE’s to get at it. We have one DE on the roster right now. Derrick Morgan. We need somebody across from him.

Also, if you think Verner and McCourty aren’t the real deal, you’re mistaken. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by them this year.

  • TitanBlueGoVols

So Mannings not the Real Deal. Look the bottom line you never know what your gonna get with a draft pick or a free agent pickup. The bottom line is the team isn’t going to do what we say they should here on a post anyways. Although the year Hawkins was drafted. Did say the Titans should draft Lavell Hawkins from Al after watching him play UT before the draft and they did. I also posted the Titans should draft Alterraun Verner the year they drafted him before the draft. Both post were made to the The Tennessean comments each of tose season on who we should draft.anyways what is the bottom line is we don’t sign the checks for either a draft pick or a free agent, However the man does has stated that he will and do anything possible to get Manning. So we might ought to close discussion because if he tells the coach to put in Vince then he is going to anything he can to get Manning if he says he is….. just sayn….

  • albertogonzalez

@TitanBlueGoVols At least now we know Bud is willing to pay big money to someone, that’s a good first step. We need proved pass rush, for me that’s a fact. Either Williams or Abraham may be a nice fit. Almost $30 M in cap space is enough to sign anyone in the market plus some second wave free agents plus draft picks

  • JasonPeters

@TitanBlueGoVols If we thought like that, we wouldn’t have a web site. Discussion is kind of what we do here.

  • seagle1

Yeah if the Titans got Peyton, they most definitely cut Hasselbeck. There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell they would keep 3 qbs. QB is definitely not at the top our needs list but if you can upgrade at any position then do it, right? On another note….if you’re going to pay a huge amount of money to Peyton, then why not throw that money at Mario, someone who would easily help solidify our D line for years to come.

  • JasonPeters

@seagle1 That seems to be the general consensus around here. I know I certainly agree with that logic.
