The Tennessee Titans have shown interest in hiring Brett Maxie as their new secondary coach. Maxie is currently the safeties coach for the Dallas Cowboys. Maxie is supposed to have great work ethic and have earned the respect of the coaches and players in Dallas. It’s obviously a couple factors the Titans have been focusing on as the team changed hands from Fisher to Munchak. The bigggest question is, is he a good coach?
It’s hard to tell when a coach has a position that doesn’t have the largest impact on the field. It’s even harder when they don’t have good players at the position they’re coaching.
When I think of the Cowboys safeties, I think of the final game of this last season where both safeties took a bad line of pursuit during the first half and got burnt by Victor Cruz. That’s the only image I get and obviously, it’s not a good one.
The job would be a promotion for Maxie, as the Titans are looking to interview him for their open secondary coaching position. He was passed up for the very same promotion in his own organization. What does that say about him?
In the end you just gotta trust that the front office knows what they’re doing. Besides that, they’re just asking for an interview. They haven’t hired him yet.
