Reports are swirling all over that Tennessee Titans ex-coach Jeff Fisher is leaning towards signing with the Rams. The Rams have a lot of excellent groundwork set for Fisher to step into that could lead to a quick turn around for the 2-14 Rams. They have an excellent young QB (even if he had a bad year), a star running back, and pretty impressive DE in Chris Long. There’s a lot to like and a lot of promise in a relatively young team, but Fisher still has to actually accept the position.
Jeff Glazer tweeted yesterday he would be surprised if Fisher wasn’t the new Rams head coach within 48 hours. The Rams have also been interviewing a few of the Titans personnel, interviewing both Lake Dawson and Rouston Webster for the Rams open GM position. From multiple reports it sounds like the Rams are extremely close to inking a deal with Dawson, long time co-worker of Jeff Fishers, for the GM position. That makes it even more likely Jeff Fisher is headed there. He likes to have control of a lot of operations and if this is a sign he’s headed to St. Louis, it looks like they’re willing to play ball with him.
It’d be a good thing for the Titans if Webster wasn’t hired elsewhere, as he was brought to the Titans in 2010 to be Vice President of Player Personnel, having a lot to do with how we draft. His work can be admired by looking at our previous draft class, or the Buccaneers team that won Superbowl XXXVII, as he was the director of their college scouting team.
Last point on why Jeff Fisher will probably choose the Rams: The Rams beat him in his only Superbowl. He just wants “to feel like a winner.”
