According to ESPN, sources have confirmed the Colts will take Andrew Luck with the 1st pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. That was a no-brainer everyone saw coming. Andrew Luck is a great QB that should be able to fill Manning’s shoes better than anyone else could. The question that now remains: How soon does he get to fill those shoes?
According to ProFootballTalk both Manning and the Colts may be open to pushing back the March 8th deadline, when Manning’s $28 million bonus is due. Doing that would allow the Colts more time to inspect Manning’s neck and make a more informed decision on whether to keep Manning or not. In the end, the Colts will end up drafting Luck and Manning will be on his way to some other lucky team. That’s just how the business works.
The biggest thing is how the Colts are gonna deal with their cap room. They’ve got Manning’s bonus to deal with as well as trying to resign key players WR Reggie Wayne, DE Robert Mathis and WR Pierre Garcon. They also have other players such as C Jeff Saturday, LB Philip Wheeler, CB Jacob Lacey and TE Jacob Tamme. They’re a mess this off-season.
Glad it’s not the Titans for once.
