Here we are. Another important game the Titans can’t afford to lose. The Jaguars have practically been neutered by injuries, placing a league high 23 players on IR. They’ve also struggled behind rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert. This should be a game the Titans win, but so should have been last weeks game against the Colts. Here’s what the Titans have to do to win today…STOP MAURICE JONES-DREW. He’s well on his way to breaking a couple franchise records and has basically been the Jaguars only form of offense. If the Titans want to win this game they’ll have to stop him. Hopefully Grays done some scheming for this game in particular, because thus far the Titans run defense has been abysmal.
Get the passing game going. Hasselbeck was gimping around the field last week and that really limited what Palmer would do with the playbook. It wasn’t till the game was almost out of hand that the Titans dared throwing deeper than 5 yards. That’s gotta change. You can’t expect any defense to take you seriously if you aren’t going to threaten them with the deep ball. We have some speedy receivers who can challenge anyones secondary and we need to take advantage of that.
Give Chris Johnson room to run. Without CJ making his yardage on the ground it’s almost a certainty that the Titans lose. With the passing game falling apart, it’s important that he picks up the slack and helps the offense move that ball down the field. It’s hard to do that when you get hit 3 yards behind the line.
Like I said, this should be a game that the Titans win and I think they will. But you know what they say… Any given Sunday….
