The 2011 NFL Season is finally upon us. If you’re itching for football and aren’t overly familiar with either team, then you’re in luck. Below are three things to look for on each team.
The reigning Super Bowl champs.
1. The Run Game
RB Ryan Grant was instrumental to the team in 2009, but in 2010 he faded due to injuries. Rumor has it that nearly all of his explosiveness is gone. Can he remain the starter?
2. Aaron Rodgers
The QB that won the Super Bowl MVP deserves a spot here. With the run game presumably taking a backseat the passing game, does Rodgers hold up to last seasons standards?
3. The Offensive Line
Last years first round pick, LT Brian Bulaga holds down the RT position. This years first rounder, LT Derek Sherrod didn’t claim a starting spot. Some believe this is due to Sherrod being a tackle and not having the requisite skill set to play left guard, as the team wanted. Let’s see if they need him at the interior.
New Orleans Saints
Easy street led the way to a 2010 Super Bowl victory, but in the 2011 playoffs the Saints lost to the first team to ever make the playoffs with a losing record. Are they done? Was that a fluke?
1. Malcolm Jenkins
Jenkins, drafted in the first round out of Ohio State, played Cornerback in college but moved to Free Safety last season. Word on Easy Street is that Jenkings play may be better than that of sure-fire Hall of Famer Darren Sharper. Do they Saints have a possible All-Pro back there?
2. The Run Game
Rookie Mark Ingram won a Heisman two years ago. Pierre Thomas was the next great Saints RB, then he got injured. Darren Sproles replaces the over-drafted Reggie Bush. Then Joique Bell made the final roster. That’s 4 RB’s. Where do the carries go?
3. Drew Brees
The Super Bowl MVP from two years ago. Just watch him and enjoy a great performance. TE Jimmy Graham seems to be high on his list of targets.
