Titans Buckling Under Public Pressure

Just when we thought we had a good grasp of how things were going, Titan fans have walked straight into a wall we didn’t know was there.

According to a report filed to the associated press Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt on Sirius XM radio claims that the Titans have made an offer to make Chris Johnson the NFL’s highest paid running back. The Titans have discussed the parameters of the new deal with CJ’s agent but the team needs for Chris Johnson to come to Nashville to help finalize the details of this deal. Up to this point though, the star running back is continuing to thumb his nose at the franchise and train on his own at his home in Orlando Florida.

I still take the position that paying CJ is the worst move for the Titans franchise in the long run. The talent on the team is not up to the caliber that can properly take advantage of his skills on the field and by the time the Titans add enough help CJ could be past his prime. Why not trade a valuable commodity while its value remains high? Why wait until it is too late for the team to help itself long term by making a tough decision in the short term? Unfortunately i think the lack of success last season is going to make the Titans buckle under the weight of public opinion and make a bad choice.

Trading CJ is the best possible move the Titans can make. They have holes in almost every position group and a trade would bring picks or players (possibly both) that would accelerate the rebuild in Nashville. Sadly though it appears the Titans are more interested in winning the PR battle than they are in bring home the Lombardi trophy one day.

Stupid to trade CJ. What do the titans get in return? What more does he have to do?

Getting rid of CJ would eliminate any chance of getting to a super bowl. I bet Rex Ryan would love to have CJ right now. CJ may not be a good run blocker but neither is Petterson. Do see the Vikings putting him on the trading block? What do the titans get in return? Last time I checked Clinton Portis never won a super bowl. It makes no sense to trade CJ period. He is a potential hall of famer, something the titans haven’t had in a while.

@titantown11 to be fair, chris johnson never won a super bowl

would you rather hear the same thing here that you hear anywhere else? There would no point in reading anything here. That said, your right. CJ should be kept if for no other reason than keeping other teams from having him.I’m not being sarcastic here, I promise, but do you really think this squad has a legit chance of going to the Super Bowl this year?

@titantown11 what the titans would get in return would be a slew of draft picks that can improve multiple positions and make the team stronger across the board and possibly elite in multiple positions, rather than weak across the board and elite in a singular position. But your right, he has done everything possible to earn this contract, he deserves it, if they do pay him. We have just been examining other ideas.

I appreciate the comment, not too many people comment and I love talking football so thanks for the help!
