Derrick Mason’s agent is reportedly seeking a deal from the Titans with hopes of getting it done by the end of the week. He been in talks with the Titans management this week. When Mason was a Titan ’97-’04 he recorded 453 catches and 37 touchdowns.
Is this really a good move for the Titans?
I don’t think so. The Titans have enough men at the wide receiver position that they don’t need to be bringing in a 37 year old receiver. The position is already full of possible starters such as Kenny Britt, Nate Washington, Damian Williams, and the Mason clone – Marc Mariani. We’ve got too many young receivers that need to see the field and adding Mason could very well hamper there development. Don’t get me wrong, I love Derrick Mason and I’d love to see him retire as a Titan, but it just doesn’t make sense for the team. The best thing he could do for the team is be a mentor to our young receivers and if my memory serves me right, we just had a WR mentor for them that we paid $3.6 million dollars.
Unless Derrick Mason comes for a bargain price and doesn’t steal playing time from our young receiving corps, I say the Titans pass on this one.
