Pro Football Talk reports and ESPN’s Adam Schefter and The Tennesseean’s Jim Wyatt confirm—Matthew Hasselbeck will join the Titans on a multi-year deal.
Great move by the organization. Hasselebeck enters a starting situation and really gives himself a chance to succeed on one last run at the end of his career. The organization has pulled in a high-character individual that can start day one while also playing the mentor role for rookie Jake Locker. Not everyone gets to learn the ropes from a former Pro Bowler.
For those of you that wanted Locker to start his rookie year, I’ve got two things to say:
1. It will only help him to sit a year
2. If Hasselbeck gets atrocious, expect to see Locker play
Remember, competition makes the best of us. If Jake Locker really is the future of this franchise, then he’ll start proving it to himself and others the second he hears of this news.
I’ve got a more detailed write-up on Hasselbeck’s past, if you would like something to read.
Congrats to the team and be excited everyone, this was a great move!!
Here is something to remember, he goes by Matthew–not Matt.
CONTRACT UPDATE via Jim Wyatt:
Year 1: Hasselbeck starts
Year 2: Hasselbeck plays backup to Locker
Year 3: No more Hasselbeck
Unless, he turns into Rich Gannon and completely re-vitalizes his career. No fun for Locker but much more fun for Titans fans everywhere.
