Titans Free Agency: Vikings Ray Edwards vs Jason Babin

Jim Wyatt reported on twitter earlier this afternoon that the Titans are inquiring more details on Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards. There is no update on current Titans Free Agent Defensive End Jason Babin, the Pro Bowler….at least not from the Titans camp. Babin apparently is looking into the Eagles due to their hiring of Jim Washburn, the Titans 2010 defensive line coach.

Edwards vs Babin seems to be the name of the game, while Babin played more explosively in 2010, Edwards played at a high level for long and if the price only drops a little, the move makes sense. If the Titans are getting more information on Edwards, it could mean that Babin is looking elsewhere, or maybe they prefer Edwards.

Or  maybe the Titans front office decided to be diligent and look into all options first. Hopefully more to come tonight., we’ll see.

Babin had the breakout season in 2010 with 12.5 sacks and 54 tackles, while Edwards had 8.0 sacks and 37 tackles playing across from star defensive end Jared Allen.

Babin will be on his 5th team in 5 years if he chooses to sign with a new team. Edwards has played all 5 seasons with the Vikings.

Let me ask you this, if you’re going to spend a lot of guaranteed money on one of the two players, who do you trust to perform?

In his last 45 games, Edwards tallied 142 total tackles and 21.5 sacks.

In Babins last 35 (same time span…3 years), he tallied 105 total tackles and 17.0 sacks.

Has Babin finally hit his stride? Is he a one-year wonder? My money is on Edwards.
