Wide Receiver OJ Murdock, Fort Hays State
Weight: 197 lbs
40-yd Dash: 4.50 sec
rated 44th/297 wide receivers
Once a highly-touted prep prospect who signed with South Carolina, Murdock spent time at Marshall and Pearl River Community College before landing with the Tigers. A man among boys at the D-II level, Murdock broke the FHSU single-season records for receiving yards (1,290) and yards per catch (21.5) as a senior and scored 20 touchdowns in his two seasons with the program.
Positives: Good initial burst off the line of scrimmage to get into his route. Demonstrates the balance, quick feet and burst to generate separation as a route-runner. Catches the ball cleanly with his hands, away from his body. Shows the ability to track the ball over his shoulder and is willing to leave his feet to make the diving reception. Good concentration to make the difficult reception. Good leaping ability and surprising strength to come down with the jump ball. Has matured into a team leader.
Negatives: Starred against poor competition and struggled to translate his production at Fort Hays State into big plays during the practices and at the East-West Shrine Game. Was able to get away with rounded off routes and freelancing at the lower level. A bit stiff and isn’t able to consistently elude defenders in tight quarters. More of a straight-line athlete.
