Sean Jensen of Chicago Sun-Times reports that Babin is on the Bears radar….and the Eagles could be in pursuit as well.
Let’s examine what is good and where it is:
The Bears have everything Babin would want. They are a realistic championship contender, having only missed the Superbowl by one game last season. The Bears have Julius Peppers on one side and this would give Babin the ability to go against the right tackls, who are much less able to stop him (on avg). The Bears are a team that sits ready-built for a deep run in the playoffs. Their head coach has been in place a long time. Their division is legitimately up for grabs, regardless how well the Packers played last season. It’s a great scenario for him.
The Eagles didn’t bring him back after a 2.5 sack season in 2009, but they do have Jim Washburn, Babin’s defensive line coach from TN, and they are legitimate contenders as well. They do have Trent Cole on one side, but the problem is Brandon Graham. Brandon Graham enters his second year and is in line to be the next big, pass-rushing defensive end for the Eagles. Babin would be on a timer in Philadelphia.
Both of the first two teams have a stable quarterback situation.
The Titans are third most enticing, out of these three. Rookie QB, Rookie Head Coach, Peyton Manning is in the division, and most of all….the defense as a whole is being rebuilt, whether they admit it or not.
I guess we’ll see where the $$$ lies in all this, but if I’m Babin, one year for the Titans isn’t enough to entice me to pass up on Superbowl contention.
