Pro Football Focus just put up their list for top 4-3 Outside Linebackers and as this title suggests….the Titans missed out, but misery does love it’s company and the Colts were right there with them.
Luckily, a former Titan made the cut.
Keith Bulluck, the New York Giant finished 5th out of the top-10 ranked LBers on this list. The list covers the 2008-2010 seasons and the article did mention that his new 2-down role suited him best.
The Texans made an appearance with Brian Cushing finishing 7th, surprisingly with no mention of performance-enhancing…products. However it did mention that the suspension made it harder for him to post numbers, despite his second overall finish in 2009.
For the Jaguars, two LBers finished in the top-10. The first was Darryl Smith, and if you’re not familiar with him, you should be. While Cushing won Rookie of the Year and all the rest of the names on the list are familiar, Smith has found a way to remain anonymous. PFF has touted him for years and I’ve watched him dominate for years. I have to agree with their assesment. He’s great. He may be the only great player on the Jaguars defensive lineup (easily arguable one way or another) as of right now, but he is great. The other Jaguar on the list is Justin Durant. He’s a quick linebacker that is great around the line but fails in coverage. They suggest a two-down role for him.
1. Jarret Johnson, Baltimore
2. Chad Greenway, Minnesotta
3. Smith, Jacksonville
4. David Hawthorne, Seattle (I’m not familiar with him, I’ll admit)
5. Keith Bulluck, NY Giants
