According to Rotoworld, the Titans are in search of a veteran at the quarterback position that can “come in and win”.
Coach Mike Munchak confirmed that the Titans have every intention of adding a veteran quarterback “that can come in and win.”
Munchak is eyeing a quarterback “capable of both teaching and potentially starting.” (Sounds like Matt Hasselbeck to us.) “We’re not looking for a guy that’s not capable of starting and winning games for us,” said Munchak. “We need someone that can come in here and win, and then have a nice competition between him and Jake Locker and Rusty (Smith).” The Titans aren’t on the lookout for a third-string type veteran. If it isn’t Hasselbeck, Donovan McNabb and perhaps Marc Bulger should be high on their list.

This adds fuel to the fire for Hasselbeck to the Titans which remains the most consistent story. I’ve spoken a few times on how I feel that Hasselbeck is still very much a capable quarterback and that he would be the best solution for the Titans at this point. It’s in a rookie quarterbacks best interest to have a veteran ease the process of entering the NFL, whether or not that veteran is the starter or a backup is up to the franchise and their goals for that season. It sounds here that the Titans want someone capable of winning now, the fun part of that quote is that there is no mention of whether or now they will lean on the veteran quarterback to win now or not. Don’t take the quote at face value. It could easily mean that the franchise would prefer a quarterback with the capability to win now….from the backup position. However, it could also mean that they want to bench Jake Locker for his first season, or even just the beginning of his first season, while playing the veteran. Kerry Collins left a big hole on the team that needs to be filled.
