Photos From LP Field Memorial

Here are some photos from the LP Field memorial that I went to with our “photographer” yesterday afternoon. Click on them to see the image larger. All pictures taken by Ryan P. Alger (who we would like to send out special Happy Birthday wish to).

The video tribute on the Jumbotron was pretty neat. I believe it was a half-hour special “Titans All Access” with Mike Keith that was aired back in 2004. I think my favorite part was when they were interviewing Steve’s mother, Lucille, about the state championship Steve and his brother Fred won when Steve was a junior. They won the game on a trick play that featured a number of laterals between the brothers. So just imagine the press box announcer shouting “McNair, back to McNair, back to McNair!” She later said something like “People were looking at me asking, ‘How many boys you got?’” Pretty good.

For the past couple of days I’ve been wondering what Titans are planning on doing this season to honor McNair. You can be sure that they will wear a patch on the jersey, but what after that? Some place in the stadium dedicated to him? A road outside of the LP or in town somewhere bearing his name? The Tennessean’s David Climer discussed just this in today’s Tennessean. We could discuss this and whether or not they should do anything at all until we’re blue in the face, but I don’t think that the line is that blurred. He was the greatest Titan ever, and I see no reason, to not honor that part of his life. I’m gonna go on and say that I would love to see a road and a statue.

Agree? Disagree? Let’s hear it.
