Good morning everyone. I’m at work, so this won’t be very long, but I wanted to pass on the public memorial service info that has been released. According to the Tennessean’s website:
There will be a public memorial for former Titans quarterback Steve McNair from 3 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Baptist Church.
A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the church for McNair, who was shot and killed on Saturday. Mount Zion Baptist Church is at 7594 Old Hickory Blvd. in Whites Creek.
Funeral arrangements in Mississippi are being finalized for McNair but are expected to be on Saturday in Hattiesburg.
In lieu of flowers, fans are asked to make a donation to the Steve McNair Foundation, 1 Willow Bend Drive, Hattiesburg, Miss. 39402.
Monday night WKDF 103.3 FM will have a McNair memorial program including highlights of his Titans career. The radio show starts at 6 p.m.
If you are in a position to donate some money to the foundation, I would hope that you’d open up the checkbook. Steve certainly did for a lot of the children in our community, as well as for those kids and families whose homes and lives were ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. I was actually born in Hattiesburg, a town less than an hour away from Steve’s hometown of Mount Olive. It isn’t an area that I’d say is doing all that well, and to be honest, wasn’t even before the hurricane. And to put it into perspective a little better, Hattiesburg is like New York City compared to Mount Olive. There just isn’t a lot there. Steve was their claim to fame. He was their hero. He was a lot of people’s hero, and nothing that happened in his personal life should tarnish that image. Or, should I say, that’s how I feel about the situation. Anywho, not sure how I got off onto this (keep the emotions in check Nick!), but if you can make it to the memorial or would like to meet up and go, there is the info and you know how to contact me. Again, we’ll be covering this all week as information continues to come out, so stay tuned.
R.I.P. Steve McNair (1973-2009)
