Chris Johnson and LenDale White have teamed up to make the most formidable running duo in the NFL. They’ve got two very distinct running styles, and they’ve been able to be the crux of an offense that has produced a 12-1 team. They also have a member (LenDale White) who coined a nickname for the duo, “Smash and Dash,” that was pretty accurate, and pretty safely Tennessee’s, until…
Panthers fans exposed themselves as a pretty unimaginative bunch. Carolina’s victory over the Buccaneers on Monday was important in the scheme of the NFC South (and their Conference’s playoff picture), but it also showcased a little bit of fan plagiarism. They are using our phrase to describe DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, even though they are about two months late. LenDale White would agree with us:
“Yeah, I was watching,” White said. “I was upset because I made that phrase up myself. I made that up. I don’t know about NFL Network and all these other guys. I heard somebody say like, ‘Batman and Robin.’ That’s cute and all that. If they want that name, they can have that name. But the ‘Smash and Dash’ is something I made up. If they want a nickname, I can nickname them, ‘Identity and Theft.’ I think they’ll run away with that.”
Well said, sir. Tennessee’s duo was the first to be “Smash and Dash,” and they are also the first to be featured on their own badass t-shirt. The image below is from our allies in the Titans blogosphere, musiccitymiracles, and this shirt can be purchased at local Kroger stores.
If you live in the area, buy one. It’s not just an awesome shirt that should remind you of your childhood (if you come from our relative age bracket), but it also has the added plus of the proceeds going towards charity for foster children. Check it out. And ignore the Panthers.
