Big ups to Vanderbilt for beating Auburn tonight in a SEC matchup with much more attention placed on it than would have been guessed going into the season. As Nick pointed out earlier in the week (he got to go to the game), tonight marked the first time that Nashville has hosted ESPN’s College Gameday, and the “Dores made a pretty good impression for themselves as the country watched.
Coming off of a bye week that saw the Commodores ranked for the first time since 1984, Vandy pulled off another improbable win against the #13 ranked Tigers. According to ESPN research, Vanderbilt is: 5-0 for the first time since 1943, 3-0 in the Southeastern Conference for the first time since 1950, and victorious over Auburn for the first time since 1955. The Commodores are also 1 win away from being bowl eligable for the first time since 1982 (the year of my birth).
If your a fan of Vanderbilt, local sports or the perennial underdog, this has been pretty fun to watch.
